In our castle you won’t find empty rooms, devoid of personality; nor will you find rooms that have been done up to show you “how things used to look” or “how people used to live”. What you will find is a loved home; one family’s castle, where the past and present co-exist in harmony.
We admit: in our two-hundred room palace there are indeed a fair number of rooms that have been untouched for years – in some cases, hundreds of years – but we also have many rooms that are picture perfect. Over the centuries, the castle has had to accommodate each generation’s particular set of circumstances...so some rooms fall out of favour and others come back to life – something which continues to this day. We are the past and the present, all wrapped up in one unique home. This paradox suits us – and we believe that Berleburg, as one of the few castles in Germany that has been owned and continuously lived in by one family for nearly eight-hundred years, is uniquely placed to allow you a peek into what living in a fairy-tale castle is really like.
